Arising out of our forming the Society of Designers for Industry around 1953 ? Carl Neilsen,(product design …..Bono, (graphics), Peter Hunt, (displays & exhibitions) and me (architecture and furniture), decided to form our own design company and we rented an office in Crows Nest, Sydney. We were a bit premature, having little capital to live on and it foundered rather quickly – in essence we were all too naïve and didn’t attract any work to sustain us. We had the right idea of Total Design however which I carried the flag for at my subsequent position in the ANU Design Unit 1957.
I designed the letterhead for DRG, but I had a lot to learn about resolution in images because many lines in the harmonigram I had made did not print at all.
Experience is a hard taskmaster.
