1960s EXHIBITION OF THE SEVEN DAYS OF CREATION PAINTINGS By Leonard French Curated by me

The seven large paintings by Leonard French donated to the ANU by Ken Myer had a number of homes within the ANU in my time (1957 – 1977), but Ross Hohnen always felt that they restricted public access. I was asked to design and arrange the mounting of these magnificent paintings in Civic – the Seventh Day was a massive 12’ in diameter, solidly mounted on a wooden frame which required quite a structure to keep it vertical.

I designed the whole exhibition to be in total darkness with shielded spotlights illuminating just the paintings themselves. Each was in a separate bay so that the others could not be seen and the Seventh Day was the finale – a surprise event.

Leonard French thought it looked terrific !
